Lethe can feel herself sinking, the way that a stone does, drifting rapidly towards the ocean bed. There is no pain - the time for pain has long passed and instead she feels as if she is made of lead, heavy and drained and ready to fall into the abyss and accept her fate. There is nothing left to fight, it is simple to accept that one's corpse will surface soon, washed up or devoured, as it should be. It comes as a surprise that death feels... Calming, soothing, it feels good, like the embrace of a long forgotten friend.
They say that one should not go quiet into that goodnight, or so she has heard. But now it is here, she feels nothing but serenity, ready to accept whatever death brings her. Just sink towards the light, the soft amber light that she sees beneath her.
It is only when her vision focuses, when she thinks to look at what is coming to claim her that she begins to fight. The light does not glow softly, it is near blinding, staring into the eye of something greater, one single eye where she is smaller than it's pupil, staring at her, watching her sink towards it. In an instant, she is aware of the enroaching darkness surrounding her, the cold of the water as she sinks further than she able to survive. Her limbs feel like lead but she thrashes against it, desperately trying to move upwards and away from the...
Potential.
It is in her head, but somehow reverberates through the water. It is everywhere at once, beyond comprehension, it is beyond knowing. Somehow, she feels as if she is staring into the abyss, into the vast nothingness that a mind cannot begin to comprehend and it stares back, and it watches her. It speaks to her.
You have potential.
She freezes, for a moment the water around her holds her at the level. Lethe locks eyes with the creature - she ignores the limbs moving around her, the ice in her veins and the darkness around her. She stares in the abyss willingly, and it seems to amuse the creature, not that she has any way of telling. What does it mean, potential? For what? She has nothing to offer it, but no creature could offer anything to something like this.
Learn. Grow.
She repeats it, swallowing the water down as she repeats like a mantra.
Learn. Grow. Provoke. Consume.
"What does that mean?"
