THE TACTICIAN
Someday I’ll make something out of me, years of imitating mastery only made me a better thief
Screaming.
Broken, shuddering symphony conducted with the shortness of dwindling breath, distant even as the hollow ring arose, a dense presence pressing with cruel desire against aching bone. Almost did thought form beneath, gently arise among towering peaks lacking shape or substance, storm split for a moment.
It was theirs.
Rasp that which filled the empty space afterwards, realisation never to come even as it settled, the notion death carried, the implication of end, settled. Wide the umber depths that perceived without the protection rose hued lenses offered, a blessing as much it were a curse. "Wake up…" Even as dwindling whine adorned beared teeth arising paws, pressing against flesh familiar and yet alien, wrong. Mind rebelled even as delicate, translucent crescents dug beneath cooling skin, found muscle that time would make rigid, a cascade the quickened fall of their tears.
She wouldn't move. Why wasn't she moving.
Jostled the mattress, movement caught within peripheral vision, comfort taken from figure familiar. Slow the disentanglement, the manner they moved until they may indulge in her warmth, yet impeded even this short action. Never fast enough it seemed, mere child, fool with a heart soft as it wept rivets. Harsh the words contorting atmosphere, leaden that which constricts throat, stopped the quiet pleas burning caged tongue.
"Stop, please." Crackling hum, but the static buzz white noise held, fell from trembling lips to ears that fell once more to cranium, lost among her own words, a vile outburst. Shaky shadow they who follow in wake, interrupted the dwindling breath, what little taste they may force between clenched teeth.
Blood on the sand. From the closure of jaws thick fell it, saliva intermingling with that welling along flesh broken, split along forcefully made seams. Thoughtless the clumsy steps, trajectory unplanned but enough they may be gone from here, messy, poorly formed prints left with each contact all that may remain.
