The apprentice caught a flash of movement, a blur of grey and white fur, a little thing dripping golden rage. Nostrils flared, he jerked his head to the side, growling and grimacing as claws scored deep scratches down the side of his muzzle. The sparkledoggo’s lips pulled back in a snarling grimace, blood running down his teeth and drowning his nose in a metallic haze.
Yellow lines zipped between his ears. Blood’s taste-smell wrapped over his senses like a red filter; his thoughts became the copper taste and sticky smooth perfume.
Quasar lunged at his attacker, leaping forward with green paws outstretched. He aimed to slam a paw on the smaller feline, pin the opponent in place, as saliva and blood flew from his maw. If Atticus attempted to dodge to the side of Quasar’s wounded face, the canine’s other paw was ready for the same slam.
Independent of his will, electricity crackled between his ears and zapped forward toward Atticus’s face. The strike wasn’t enough to maim or kill, but it would be a disorienting electrical jolt.
