Little is known about the history of Blackjack or what exactly pushed him down his path. A soft-footed, expert hunter and tracker foreign in the world around him, Blackjack took to relying on bounties in exchange for food, shelter, and information about the island he had wound up in. Starting young, beginning when he was a year old, his first bounties were not composed of violent murders but instead simple tasks: retrieve an item, relay a message to someone, brawl it out with some punk that stepped out of line. Eventually he ranked up to reconnaissance missions, aided by a young raven by the name of Oscuro, and by the time he was 1 1/2 years old, he was ready to get his paws dirty, taking on his first hunt-to-kill bounty. It wasn't the taste of blood and flesh that excited him, but rather the adrenaline of hunting and the notoriety he had garnered. He was capable of killing, and many knew of it. The idea of fame was intoxicating for Jackie, who, at this point, found himself entering an identity crisis, a feeling of no purpose. With this idea in mind, he felt that he had a reason to exist.

Blackjack's hunts took him to the desert, where he became acquainted with the desert residents of The Pitt. In need of a more permanent shelter, he decided to join the Pitt, taking on the temporary rank of Pale Blood until the event of his Blooding, in which he murdered a client-turned-target for his head and was somewhat traumatized by the experience. After his Blooding he became a full Pittian and exclusive member. Soon after this he rose to the rank of Skald.

Blackjack takes on an NPC bounty in the desert and, after a brawl with his target, kills them and reports back for his reward. His client pays him in a waterskin and recommends that he investigates The Pitt as a place for shelter.
